Intermittently the transmission on my 2002 ...
Sent to Chevy Experts May 24 10:32 AM

Intermittently the transmission on my 2002 Chevrolet Impala (3.4L) 83000 miles shifts hard. The problem occurs on a very intermittent basis. One time I had driven the car about 60 miles on a highway about 60 mph and when then traveled on a country road with stops the transmission shifted hard in every gear even into overdrive. Any ideas on the problem?

You need to see what code set.The pressure control solenoid is a common problem and it will set a code.

Reply to frank's Post: Frank, I just want to be sure we are talking about the same problem. When I said the transmission shifted hard that means the transmission was changing gears with sudden jerk. Also this problem is quite intermittent, it may not show up for days at a time. Will the code get set each time this occurs and remain in the computer's memory? Thank you very much for your assistance. I just didn't want to waste my time taking the car to the dealership.

A pressure control solenoid will cause a hard shift between gears as well as a hard shift from park to gear and will store a code usually without turning the light on.Try auto zone for a feww code read out.
