I have changed the battery in my 2001 chevy cavalier. When I turned the ignition the car started up and all is well except an error message on the digital odometer and my service engine light has stayed on. There is nothing wrong with the installation. Someone suggested that the computer needs resetting. 2 guys from advanced auto arts, mechanics, used the computer diagnostic machine, but it read nothing wrong with my car, we figure there is some clever reset routine like ignitions turning with so many times or something. Do you happen to know how to fix this? Thank

It's not a clever reset routine.

The problem is that the generic code reader they are using is not capable of acccessing everything in the computer. If the check engine light is on, there are codes stored. You may need a professional scan tool to read them though.

They both mean the same thing. The only difference is one is higher priority that the other.

The answer stays the same. You need to read the codes.
