You would need to get the Engine Number, Engine Casting Number, Transmission Number & V.I.N. Then look up & compare the Numbers. There are different Sites & Pulications for that, but research is the only way to be Sure.

The 1955 -1957 Chevrolet has a VIN Tag and a Cowl Tag. The VIN tag is located on the drivers side door jam. The Cowl Tag is located on the Firewall.

Vin Tag
The First Digit is the engine type
V= 8 Cylinder (V-8)
6 Cylinder Engines did not have a letter

The Second Digit is the model
A= 150
B= 210
C= Bel Air
D= Sedan Delivery

The Third and Fourth Digit is the year manufactured
55= 1955
56= 1956
57= 1957

The Fifth Digit: Assembly Plant
A= Atlanta, GA
B= Baltimore, MD
F= Flint, MI
J= Janesville, WI
K= Kansas City,MO
L=Los Angeles, CA
N=Norwood, OH
O=Oakland, CA
S=St. Louis, MO
T=Tarrytown, NY

The Sixth thru Eleventh Digits: Each plant used their own sequence numbers. Each plant usually started with number - 001001 for 1955 and 1956, and 100001 for 1957. This number is the car's serial number.

Cowl Tag gave corresponding information pertaining to the body:
Style No: Indicates the year and body style
Body No: Assembly plant letters and body number
Trim No: Indicates upholstery color.
Paint No: Indicates exterior paint color.
Top & Acc: Indicates options car may have had. Not all plants stamped this
