how do you remove an ignition switch from a 1970 corvette

I have removed every part of the steering wheel and i still cannot remove the ignition switch. The key will not turn all the way back. This might be the problem. Can i just break the switch and will it come out without damaging anything else?

Do you have the new lock cylinder? And does it look like this?

If so, you need to turn the key to the on position and depress the tab you see towards the rear of the cylinder, then pull the cylinder out. There may be a thin casting film covering the slot where you need to depress the tab, just use a very small screwdriver to braek the casting film to expose the tab.
