Why 87 carmaro keeps running after key is off

after I turn the key off the engine keeps running for a minute or so before it shuts down. What is the problem

It sounds as if the car is "dieseling"......after you shut it off it runs roughly for a minute or so? Adjust the ignition timing and this will solve your problem. Also check to see if it is running rich (too much fuel).
